Family Hike Carlingford 2015
As a friendly opener we are holding a family hike in Carlingford on the 11th of October this is to welcome back our existing cubs and beavers and to welcome into our Cub packs and Beaver lodges all our new Scouts.
This will be a relatively easy hike of approximately 5 Kms on easy walking ground for Beavers and about 8 Kms on more challenging ground for Cubs We are inviting you the parents and siblings to join us on what is always a fun day.
Cubs and beavers should wear layers to keep warm, tracksuit bottoms or combats (not jeans)!!
Cubs/Beavers should bring:
- walking shoes/boots, (do not bring welly boots, these hurt the feet on hikes)
- wet-weather gear (must include Rain Legs),
- hat, scarf & gloves – it can be much colder in the Mountains
- a packed lunch with a drink (not fizzy), fruit & some chocolate, Plus some additional drinking water
- Cubs/ Beavers should have a small rucksack/day bag to carry their gear in (their school bags will suffice)
- Spare dry walking clothes in a plastic bag in case their main clothes get wet.
Our Cubs and beavers must wear their neckerchiefs
Most of the above should also apply to the rest of the family.
The plan is to meet at Carlingford in the Carpark beside the tourist office. This is on left hand side on the main road as you come into Carlingford. There is a green area, public toilets and a playground along-side.
Travel time from Ashbourne to Carlingford is about 1 hour 15 Minutes
We will have a quick safety briefing before we head out on our walk.
One last thing although we don’t envisage any difficulties or danger I do have to add our Cubs and beavers are registered with Scouting Ireland and are therefore Insured for activities, all other non-members that Join us on the day are very welcome but unfortunately not covered under our Scouting Irelands Insurance.
If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me.
I look forward to meeting you all in Carlingford for what is always a very enjoyable event.
