Summer 2021 Cycling Activity

It's time for us to get out on our bikes! Our Summer cycling event is open to Ventures and Scouts. We'll be meeting at the community centre on Saturday 24th of July at 9.30am sharp. We'll have a quick safety briefing and then hit the road. We expect to return by 12.30-1pm so we should miss the worst of the heat (imagine saying that in Ireland!)

Here's what you'll need:

  • A bicycle in good working order
  • A helmet
  • Sun cream
  • Water (at least 500ml)
  • A snack to eat when we get to our destination
  • necker (don't wear scout uniform, it's too hot)

The total length of our cycle will be about 25k

See you there!

Hike for Hope with 6th Meath

Screenshot 2020 05 06 at 20.43.34

In these extraordinary times, it's more important than ever to take that extra step to help those most in need. For the last several years we are proud to say that Ashbourne Ventures and Rovers have helped out at and participated in the Pieta House "Darkness into Light" event. In this, a year like no other, it isn't possible to run this event in the usual way and so Scouts have come up with the Hike to Hope instead.

The idea of Hike to Hope is to support Pieta House by virtually hiking the mountains that we can't travel to by walking and/or climbing close to home. This year, Scouts and Ventures were due to travel to Wales culminating with the chance to ascend Snowdon via the Pyg track. Due to Covid-19 this has to be deferred to next year but, in the meantime, we can virtually climb it and raise money to boot.

What we are asking of Scouts:

1. Walk the Slí na Sláinte twice before the end of the week making 8 kilometers. Beavers can walk one circuit  of the Slí with an adult from their household to make up 2x4k = 8k. Cubs can do two laps with an adult from their household. Scouts, Ventures and Rovers who were planning to go to Wales should also climb one flight of stairs 300 times.
2. Donate on this page
3. Send a message to us either via Facebook Messenger to 6th Meath Ashbourne Scouts, or by Text to 086 0432355 or by emailing This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and tell us how far you walked and how much you donated (optional)
4. Send us any pictures of yourself and let us know if you're ok with those pictures being posted on our Facebook page (optional)

All sections can take part.

DO:
Grab your family and get them to go with you!
Put on your necker and wear it with pride!
Tell friends you're doing this

DON'T
Let the lockdown get you down!

Hike for Hope

Hike4Hope

This Saturday May 29th 6th Meath Ashbourne Scouts, Ventures, Rovers and Scouters will be taking part in Hike for Hope. Please visit our iDonate page to make a contribution to Jigsaw, supporting our Young People's mental health,  our goal is to reach €30 per Scout doing the hike.

The plan is to start from Larch Hill at 11am (directions here). We expect to be finished around 3.30pm. You can find an equipment list here.

For reasons of COVID-19 safety all Scouts must organise their own transport to and from the starting point. Scouts must bring a mask with them in case they get injured and need treatment (mask must be worn during treatment). The mask does not need to be worn during the normal course of the hike.

Route details can be found here
