Fairy Castle on our 2014 Dublin Mountain Way Overnight Expedition

We will be doing an overnight hike on the Dublin Mountain way on Friday 21st/ Saturday 22nd. This hike will be considerably easier than the 2 night wild camping adventure that we did in June. An overnight hike is a mandatory requirement for Chief Scout Award and for Hill Walking Level 4 and higher levels of Camping.

Our choice of route is to be finalised with a route based on last year's Dublin Mountain Way overnight a strong contender. The plan is that parents will drop Scouts (or arrange for them to be dropped) at the starting point of the hike on Friday evening 21st. The plan is to meet at Larch Hill at 4.30pm. We will register with the warden there and the scouts can put their sandwiches for Sunday lunch in the fridges there. We will then go to Lamb Doyle's and arrive there at 5pm to start the hike. Scouts may carry their full overnight load with them or they can ask a willing volunteer (e.g. parent) to meet them in Larch Hill with this gear and just carry a day bag. Scouts will hike to Larch Hill Scout Centre and then pitch their tents and cook dinner.

Next day we will pack up and leave our heavy gear in a car. We will then hike a circular route beginning and ending in Larch Hill. The scouts should be tired and ready for collection from Larch Hill by 4.30pm on Saturday 22nd.
