Scouts and Ventures are planning to join the County Hike of Slieve Binnian, in Northern Ireland on Saturday March 19th. This will be an early start so we expect to be leaving Ashbourne 7.30am. Please assemble in the Community Centre car park shortly before 7.30am. RSVP essential. Lifts with leaders are first come, first served.
Transportation will be by arrangement with leaders who are going. Please contact your section leader with expressions of interest. There will be a cost associated with this hike due to transportation to Northern Ireland. We expect this cost to be €10.
Slieve Binnian is a spectacular mountain with commanding views of the Silent Valley and surrounding peaks. This is a relatively challenging hike (classified medium winter hike) ideal for those looking to gain higher levels in the Hill Walking badges. It includes steep ground and will require some scrambling. Scouts should dress for winter conditions with hat, gloves, scarf and full wet gear including wet legs. Scouts should bring a packed lunch, flask of something warm, emergency rations, compass and bivvy bag. As always, strong footwear is advised.
