County Hike - Lough Dan - April 15th

lough dan pano 684px

Sunday 15th April, our Scout Group are running the Scout and Venture county hike. This will follow the same route as our trail-finding hike last week starting and ending in Lough Dan Scout Centre via Scarr and Kanturk. Conditions are set to be wet and windy.

Basic gear list for the hike is here.

We always want Scouts to have the items on the kit list but given the forecast it is essential to have a water proof jacket, warm layers, wet legs, a change of clothes (in a waterproof bag) and plastic bag for wet and muddy boots to go into on the way home.

Scouts will need to meet at the Community Centre 8am, Sunday 15th. Spaces in leaders' cars will be limited as of now it's looking like we'll be short four spaces so we advise organising a car pool to drop and collect at Lough Dan Scout Centre (directions here). We expect to be finished the hike some time between 3pm and 4pm depending on pacing. Please contact the scout phone with any queries: 086 0432355

Trail finding hike - Lough Dan

Lough Dan

Sunday 8th April, we'll be doing a trail finding hike starting from Lough Dan and taking in Scarr and Kanturk. If it's a good day there are incredible views - I've seen the mountains of Wales from the top of Kanturk on a clear day. The purpose of the hike is to prepare the way for the Scout/Venture county hike which will be run by 6th Meath Ashbourne for the second year in a row.

Scouts will need to meet at the Community Centre 9am, Sunday 8th. Spaces in leaders' cars will be limited so we advise organising a car pool to drop and collect at Lough Dan Scout Centre (directions here). We expect to be finished the hike some time between 3pm and 4pm depending on pacing.

Gear list for the hike is here.

Winter Camp 2018 - Larch Hill

Campfire 1

Scouts and Ventures, the time for Winter Camp is almost upon us. The camp will take place on the 19th-21st January. As it is January we will be staying in the cosy Centenial Lodge with hostel type accommodation. We are now full up and regrettably cannot accept any late entries to Winter Camp.

The camp will include a full programme of activities ranging from backwoods skills and first aid to cooking and some fun and games too.

Parents & Guardians will be required to transport their Scouts to Larch Hill (directions here) on the evening of Friday 19th at 8pm having already had their dinner and back again on Sunday afternoon, 21st at 1pm. Please note, there have recently been some diversions in place near Larch Hill so the journey may take a few minutes more than usual.  The cost for the camp is €50, this cost includes all food, overnight fees and programme materials. Anyone who hasn't already paid for Winter Camp will need to bring the balance on Friday.
